As a founding member of Keepers of the Coast and member of this community I am proud of what we have accomplished and thrilled to see where we go next! We started this organization in 2007 because we wanted to provide more education and outreach about marine debris prevention and imperiled species. Through our successful annual sea turtle festival and regularly scheduled beach cleanups we have been providing outreach to the community in such a way that it has become a way of life.
I am a fifth generation Floridian and was born in Sarasota, Florida growing up just outside of the Orlando area in Lake Mary. My childhood was spent outdoors in the woods and at the beach. I used to visit my family in St. Augustine often as a teenager and eventually moved here in May 1997 and then returned to live here in May of 2006 with my family. We moved from Lake Tahoe where we enjoyed snowboarding, hiking, and swimming in the lake as well as some of the most beautiful beaches of United States. Big Sur was by far one of my favorite places to visit, camp and surf. Spending time with my kids is the most important as we enjoy biking, surfing, paddle boarding and collecting biological booty (aka sea shells and beans) through our own beach cleanups.
